Cụ thể, vụ việc xảy ra khoảng 14 giờ cùng ngày, hai sà lan của một doanh nghiệp khai thác khoáng sản trên sông Ô Lâu đã bị nước lũ cuốn trôi, khi đến khu vực cầu Mỹ Chánh, do mực nước dâng cao, hai sà lan đã va vào trụ cầu và mắc kẹt.
"Nhận được thông tin, đơn vị đã cử lực lượng đến kiểm tra, nhưng vì trời mưa rất to, mực nước sông dâng cao và chảy xiết nên hiện tại chưa thể xử lý được", thượng tá Nguyễn Văn Thăng nói.

Sự cố khiến cơ quan chức năng lo ngại nguy cơ ảnh hưởng đến an toàn công trình cầu đường sắt Mỹ Chánh cũng như cầu đường bộ ở khu vực lân cận, nhất là trong điều kiện nước lũ đang lớn.
Ngay sau khi tiếp nhận thông tin, UBND xã Nam Hải Lăng đã báo cáo sự việc với Sở Xây dựng tỉnh Quảng Trị và ngành đường sắt để phối hợp xử lý.
