Vinicius đến với trận derby Champions League thứ hai trong vòng 1 tuần giữa nhiều tranh cãi. Cảm giác về anh luôn mang chiều hướng tích cực. Vinicius là cầu thủ rê bóng xuất sắc nhất của Real Madrid và cũng là người tấn công cố gắng nhiều nhất, ngay cả khi phong độ không đạt đỉnh cao.

Tuy nhiên, trước đội bóng vùng Vallecas, anh đã chấm dứt cơn khát bàn thắng bằng 1 pha lập công đẹp mắt, nâng tổng số bàn thắng mùa này lên 19, một sự khởi động hoàn hảo trước trận đại chiến với Atletico, đội bóng mà anh còn "món nợ" cá nhân phải thanh toán.
Nỗi ám ảnh mang tên Atletico
Những con số của Vinicius trước Atletico có thể nói là cần phải cải thiện rất nhiều. Sau 16 lần đối đầu Atletico, anh chỉ ghi được 1 bàn và có 1 pha kiến tạo.
Bàn thắng duy nhất ấy đến ở mùa giải 2022-23, trong trận tứ kết tại Bernabéu, khi Real Madrid thắng 3-1 sau hiệp phụ. Khi ấy, Vinicius ghi bàn thắng thứ 3 vào lưới hàng thủ Atletico kiệt sức. Kể từ đó, anh không thể chọc thủng lưới Oblak, hay bất kỳ thủ môn nào của Atletico, một điều đáng ngạc nhiên nếu xét đến việc anh đã ghi tổng cộng 104 bàn trong màu áo Real Madrid (bằng với huyền thoại Ronaldo Nazário).
Đặc biệt, anh lại thường xuyên tỏa sáng trước những đối thủ lớn khác: 7 bàn sau 19 trận gặp Barcelona, 5 bàn sau 5 trận gặp Liverpool, 4 bàn chỉ trong 2 trận đối đầu Dortmund, và 2 bàn sau 9 trận gặp Manchester City.
Dù vậy, không thể nói Vinicius không có tầm ảnh hưởng trong các chiến thắng của Real trước Atletico. Trong trận derby đầu tiên tại Metropolitano, anh kiếm về một quả phạt đền (Atletico phản đối mạnh mẽ vì cho rằng đó là một pha phạm lỗi ngoài vòng cấm, nhưng VAR – mới được áp dụng tại La Liga năm đó – không can thiệp). Ở mùa 2021-22, tại Bernabéu, anh đã kiến tạo cho Benzema và Asensio lập công, giúp Real thắng 2-0.
Ký ức về sự khởi đầu đặc biệt
Thực tế, trận ra mắt chính thức của Vinicius trong màu áo Real Madrid cũng là một trận derby. Dưới thời Julen Lopetegui, Vinicius bị đày xuống đội Castilla, dù CLB đã bỏ ra 45 triệu euro để đưa anh về từ Flamengo. Mãi đến tháng 9/2018, anh mới được ra sân 2 phút cuối trận hòa 0-0 trước Atletico – khoảng thời gian quá ít để tạo dấu ấn. Khi đó, anh chưa thể khẳng định mình dưới thời Lopetegui, nhưng khi Santiago Solari lên nắm quyền, Vinicius mới thực sự bùng nổ.

Cơn ác mộng tại Metropolitano
Metropolitano không chỉ là sân đấu khắc nghiệt với Vinicius về mặt chuyên môn, mà còn là nơi anh phải hứng chịu những hành vi phân biệt chủng tộc nghiêm trọng. Anh từng bị cổ động viên Atletico hò reo những câu xúc phạm như "Vinicius là con khỉ" xung quanh sân vận động.
Mặc dù La Liga đã tố cáo những hành vi này, nhưng đáng ngạc nhiên là cơ quan công tố Tây Ban Nha lại không coi đây là hành vi phạm tội, vì chúng "chỉ kéo dài vài giây" và xảy ra "trong bối cảnh cạnh tranh cao độ". Đỉnh điểm là vụ việc một hình nộm da đen mặc áo Vinicius bị treo trên cầu với tấm biểu ngữ có dòng chữ "Madrid căm ghét Real".
