Ngày 11.10, thông tin từ Sở Giáo dục và Đào tạo tỉnh Quảng Trị cho biết đơn vị đã tổ chức trao bằng khen của Thủ tướng Chính phủ cho em Lê Đức Trung (học sinh lớp 12, Trường THPT Cửa Tùng, xã Cửa Tùng) vì hành động dũng cảm cứu người bị đuối nước.

Nhận được phần thưởng cao quý, Trung cảm thấy vinh dự khi việc làm của mình được ghi nhận.
Trước đó, vào lúc 14 giờ ngày 21.6, gia đình chị Phạm Thị Thương (39 tuổi, ở Hà Tĩnh) đến tắm tại bãi biển Đá Nhảy (xã Bắc Trạch, tỉnh Quảng Trị). Trong lúc tắm, 2 con của chị Thương là cháu N.Đ.P.A (11 tuổi) và N.K.A (9 tuổi) bị một đợt sóng lớn ập đến cuốn ra xa bờ (Thanh Niên đã thông tin).
Lúc này, em Lê Đức Trung cùng gia đình ngồi ăn uống tại nhà hàng bên bờ biển. Nghe thấy tiếng kêu cứu của chị Thương, nhìn ra biển Trung phát hiện 2 cháu bé đang chới với nên lập tức lao ra ứng cứu thành công cháu N.K.A. Riêng cháu N.Đ.P.A lúc đó đang ở gần bờ nên cũng được người nhà cứu kịp thời.
Sau sự việc, chị Phạm Thị Thương đã cùng các con trở vào Quảng Trị thăm gia đình Trung.
"Em cảm thấy rất vui, hè vừa rồi em cũng tranh thủ tập bơi để có thêm kinh nghiệm. Dịp này em đang tập trung học các môn ở trường", Trung bày tỏ.
Ngày 16.7, thừa ủy quyền của Trung ương Đoàn, Tỉnh đoàn Quảng Trị đã trao tặng Huy hiệu "Tuổi trẻ dũng cảm" và bằng khen cho em Lê Đức Trung.
